Meet Our Doctors
At NeuroSpine and Pain Center, patients receive care from some of the best in the field. All our physicians are board certified. This step follows a long and rigorous residency program—seven years for a neurosurgeon. Several of our neurosurgeons have completed fellowships with the American College of Surgeons in addition to their residencies. And our physical medicine physician has earned a fellowship from the American Academy of Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation after completing additional training in this field.
Isa Canavati, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Canavati attended American University, Beirut, Lebanon, where he acquired his M.D. He completed residencies at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, and Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, and the University of California, San Francisco. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Canavati specializes in neurosurgery.
Jeffrey K. Kachmann, M.D.
Dr. Kachmann received his M.D. from Indiana University, Indianapolis, IN. He completed his internship at Case Western Reserve Hospital, Cleveland, OH. Dr. Kachmann completed his residencies at the University of Kansas Medical Center, and at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. In addition he completed a fellowship in neurosurgery at New York University Hospital, New York, NY. Dr. Kachmann specializes in neurosurgery with emphasis on complex spine disorders including instrumentation, craniofacial reconstruction, pituitary disorders and brain tumors.
David J. Lutz, M.D., F.A.A.P.M.R.
Physical Medicine / Rehabilitation
Dr. David Lutz received his medical degree and graduated with academic honors from the Brody School of Medicine, part of the University of East Carolina Health System in Greenville, NC. His undergraduate degree was earned in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Lutz finished his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Brody School of Medicine, where he was also chief resident. In addition, he completed postgraduate work at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Lutz is double board certified in both Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and in the field of Pain Medicine and is one of the original Board of Directors of the Indiana Pain Society. Dr. Lutz’s practice focuses on the non-surgical care of the spine, pain, and musculoskeletal problems.
Loi K. Phuong, M.D., F.A.C.S
Dr. Phuong received his medical degree from the University of California at Irvine following an undergraduate degree from California State University at Los Angeles. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Dr. Phuong completed his neurosurgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he received one of the top scores on the country in the neurosurgery board exam. In addition, he completed a fellowship in molecular medicine at Mayo. Dr. Phuong is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Ian White, M.D.
Dr. White, a native of Hawaii, graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois and Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He was previously affiliated with Indiana University Health. His specialties include complex spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery and neuro-oncology, which is the diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the brain and spinal cord.
April Christlieb, P.A.-C.
Ms. Christlieb serves as physician assistant in neurosurgery. Her undergraduate degree was earned in Biology at University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ms. Christlieb completed her Physician Assistant Studies at Butler University/Clarian Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is board-certified as a physician assistant.
Matthew Connor, MSN, AGACNP-BC
Mr. Connor serves as a Nurse Practitioner in neurosurgery. He obtained his undergraduate degree in nursing from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, Indiana. He obtained his associates degree in nursing from Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne, Indiana. His Master of Science in Nursing degree was completed at the University of Southern Indiana, Evansville. Mr. Connor has a background in trauma and general surgery and is a Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserves.
Amy Sutton, FNP.–BC.
Ms. Sutton serves as a Nurse Practitioner in neurosurgery. She obtained her undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her Master of Science in Nursing degree was completed at Indiana Wesleyan University. Ms. Sutton has a background in surgery and is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
Jennifer Ritchie, MSN, FNP-C
Ms. Ritchie graduated magna cum laude with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree as well as her Master of Science and Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Union University. Ms. Ritchie serves as a Nurse Practitioner in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, building upon her 15-year background as a registered nurse in medical-surgical nursing, urology and as a certified nephrology nurse as well as a Family Nurse Practitioner in family medicine. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
